What a load of rubbish!

Joanne Sim, marketing manager of Cundall, the world’s first One Planet consultancy, tells us about her day out litter-picking for Clean Up Australia Day.

Recently, I had the pleasure of organising Clean up Australia day (I am the one in the daggy yellow vest to indicate I was the team leader) at Cundall’s Sydney office.

Cundall is endorsed as a One Planet Company, therefore we have set various targets to reduce our impact on the environment.  One of the ten One Planet Living principles is Land Use and Wildlife where we look to protect and expand existing natural habitats and creating new space for wildlife. So I decided to organise a team from Cundall to take part in Clean Up Australia day.

I often go for walks during my lunch break around the harbour, I love this however the litter in and around the water always disappoints me. I therefore got a team from our Sydney office together to clean up the park in Milsons Point just opposite our office.

In two hours we collected 8.7kg of rubbish (44% was recycled afterwards) and around 1,300 cigarette butts. It was a fun afternoon and I really appreciated the whole team’s enthusiasm and efforts. Below is a video explaining the day and with interviews of those who helped.
