Barwon Water has recently become the first water utility in Australia to embrace the One Planet Living framework, becoming a Bioregional Australia Member and registering in the One Planet Program.

Over the next 12 months, Barwon Water will develop a One Planet Action Plan for the organisation. This will enable Barwon Water to apply sustainability in practice, particularly across their recently upgraded workplace at Ryrie HQ.

Barwon Water has been actively working on sustainability initiatives across key areas of the business, such as the Climate Change Mitigation Plan, with targets of 100% renewable energy by 2025 and zero net emissions by 2030.

One Planet Living will also be applied to Barwon Water regional urban developments at Torquay, South Geelong and Montpelier, developing these as international exemplars in ecologically sustainable urban design.

Through their commitment to One Planet Living, Barwon Water aims to become an inspiring exemplar of sustainability in practice. Given the environmental basis of their services and strong community connections they are ideally placed to take a regional leadership role in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong, a One Planet Council.
